60. leap day…inception style

the product of being 2 hours, 14 minutes in to a 3-hour lecture with a laptop at my disposal on february 29th:

58. “did you see that sky today? talk about blue.”

It felt like April today.  It looked like April today.  Kronk’s famous words from the Emperor’s New Groove perfectly describe the sky today.  I couldn’t resist this photo-op … the iconic hospital.  You could pick the dome out of the skyline from the window of the 9th-floor apartment where I lived last year, 2 miles away.  I sometimes can’t believe that I actually occasionally get to work here.  I remember seeing a flyer for this place during my freshman year of college and getting the idea that I might want to go study somewhere awesome like this after graduation.  It was a fleeting thought, and it seemed like a bit of a pipe dream at the time…but five years later, here I am.

Did you see that sky today? Talk about blue.

57. I’ve been waiting for this day for ten years.

Ever since I started playing tennis in 8th grade, I’ve wanted to break a string.  It’s kind of weird, I know, because it’s inconvenient and you have to go get it fixed and everything, but  it means you’re hardcore and intense!  You have to hit with power and spin to break strings.  One time I broke one while hitting an overhead in high school, but it was just bad string.  Not anything awesome that I did.  So I ended up going through my tennis career with all strings intact.

Until today.

That’s right.  Today, I was playing tennis and BAM!  One real live broken string from hitting hard and hitting with spin.  As far as life dreams, this is pretty high up on the list.  Not as high up as seeing James Taylor in concert, but higher up than riding a camel (which I did in 2005 and it was great).

The remains:

56. BREAD!

I got a bread maker for my birthday (in November…….) from my parents, and I finally used it yesterday (February 25th……..) to make a beautiful loaf of whole wheat bread!

It rocks.  It was warm and made the house smell like bread and it was so easy to make.  I can’t believe it took me almost 4 months to get motivated to make bread…I mean, seriously.  All you have to do is dump the ingredients in, push some buttons, and come back 5 hours later to fresh-baked bread…!

55. wailin’ jennys

Friday, February 24, 2012.  Not the most exciting day ever.  Not the least.  Kinda gray.  Maybe rainy a little, I don’t remember.  I worked, (slowly, because apparently it’s really difficult for me to be productive on Fridays), went to happy hour, and relaxed.

Actually, that sounds pretty awesome.

Here is the picture I chose to go with Friday:

This is the album cover from the Wailin’ Jennys album “40 days,” which is an AMAZING album.  I love it.  Every song.  My favorite one is “Heaven When We’re Home.” One of the lines in that song is “trust me, I’ve been lookin’, but tonight I think I’ll go and take a bath instead.”

That was Friday.  I just went home and took a bath and didn’t worry about things.

54. dinner party

Top 5 reasons I like having people over for dinner:

5.  awesome break from work
4.  I’m motivated to make a balanced meal my mom would be proud of (it includes protein, vegetables, grains…and dessert)
3.  we get to show off the plants in our apartment, including Gertrude, Gertrude Sr., and Jemima.  (Sadly, Diego Loco, my crazy basil plant, has died.)
2.  the only family heirloom I have at the moment is a beautiful kitchen table…it BEGS to be used for eating and socializing.
1.  my friends rock!

this picture, taken after tonight’s little dinner party, is an example of some of my friends rocking by helping me craft this lovely photo for today’s blog entry:
